Description
No. 17 Welch Gate is a house that has been converted into a shop and flat. It dates from the late 18th century and has undergone alterations in the mid-19th century and late 20th century. The building is constructed of painted brick and features an artificial slate roof with gable end stacks. It has two storeys and a dog tooth brick cornice.
On the upper floor, there are two windows, which are sashes with tripartite glazing set under timber lintels. The ground floor includes a plate glass shop window on the left with a signboard above it. Slightly to the right of the centre, there is an entrance to the shop, which has a four-flush panel door with the upper two panels being glazed. The entrance to the flat is located at the right-hand corner and features a wooden architrave under a concrete lintel with a half-glazed door. The building is included for its group value.
