Description
73 and 74 Welch Gate are two houses built in the late 18th century, with some alterations made in the late 20th century. The houses are constructed of brick and topped with a slate roof. They rise three storeys high and feature a dentilled brick cornice. The front has three windows: a 16-pane sash window on the left and two glazing bar sashes, all set under flat arches with stepped voussoirs. On the second floor, there are 8-pane and 6-pane sash windows under segmental heads.
On the ground floor, the left house, number 74, has a pilastered shop front with a canopy, and a central entrance that is accessed by two stone steps. This entrance is flanked by fluted pilasters and features a six flush panel door, with multi-pane slightly bowed shop windows on either side. The right house, number 73, has two glazing bar sashes with stepped voussoirs above. The entrance between these windows has a moulded wooden architrave, a flat canopy supported by brackets, and a six flush panel door with two glazed panels above.
