Description
No. 42 High Street is a house dating from the late 18th century, with some alterations from the mid-19th century and mid-20th century. It is constructed of brick and features a hipped tile roof with stacks along the ridge. The main front of the house faces north-west and is positioned at right angles to the street.
The main front has two storeys above a cellar, with a dentilled brick cornice. There are four windows, all of which are glazing bar sashes set beneath cambered heads with stone sills. On the ground floor, there are three glazing bar sash windows under segmental heads. The entrance, located to the right of centre where a window would typically be, is approached by two steps and features a plastered doorcase with a semi-circular canopy supported by simple brackets, a fanlight, and a six flush panel door.
The street front also has two storeys above a cellar. On the first floor, there are two wooden cross windows under segmental heads. The ground floor has two windows: a wooden cross window on the left and a large two-light casement window on the right. In the basement, there is a two-light stone mullioned window on the left.
