Description
No. 24 High Street is a house built in the mid-18th century, with some alterations made in the late 20th century. The building is constructed of brick and features a tile roof with gable end stacks. It is set back about two meters from the street's building line. The house is three storeys high with a basement and has a moulded wooden cornice.
On the front, there are two windows: a 16-pane boxed sash window on the left and a boxed glazing bar sash window on the right, both featuring rubbed brick heads. On the second floor, there is a horizontally sliding sash window on the left and a 6-pane sash window on the right, both under segmental heads. The ground floor windows match those on the first floor. The entrance is located to the right of centre and includes a wooden doorcase with engaged Doric columns and an entablature that supports an open pediment, which has a modillioned cornice. The door features a fanlight with decorative glazing and panelled reveals leading to a recessed door with six raised and fielded panels.
Inside, the house has an open well staircase with a ramped moulded handrail, slender turned balusters, and an open string. Several rooms contain original fireplaces that have simple eared architraves.
