Description
49 and 52 High Street are two houses built in the early 19th century, with some alterations from the late 19th and late 20th centuries. They are constructed of brick on a rendered plinth and feature a tile roof with stacks at the rear. The buildings rise three storeys above a cellar and have a dentilled brick cornice and brick coped verges.
There are three windows on the upper floors: the first floor has 4-pane boxed sashes beneath segmental heads with stone sills, while the second floor features 8-pane horizontally sliding sashes. On the ground floor, two windows similar to those on the first floor flank an entrance that leads to a central passageway. This passageway has a semi-circular head and a stable door, which has a semi-circular top half with four raised and fielded panels and a bottom half with two flush panels. The entrances to the individual houses are accessed from this passage. The cellar has two low openings with plastered cambered heads and simple metal grilles.
