Description

This is a mid-18th century house, later altered in the early 19th century and with some late 20th-century changes. It has been converted into six flats. The building is constructed of stuccoed brick, with a hipped slate roof and gable-end stacks. The front of the building is divided into two parts. The left-hand side is three storeys high and has two windows. The windows are 4-pane sashes with segmental heads. On the second floor, there is a 2-light casement to the left and a horizontally sliding sash to the right, both with segmental heads. The ground floor has a 16-pane sash to the right. To the left corner are two entrances with rusticated surrounds and segmental heads, containing ledged and boarded doors. The left-hand door provides access to a passage leading to the rear of number 26, while the right-hand door gives access to the rear of number 25. The right-hand side of the building is three storeys high and has three windows. The windows are 4-pane sashes, with keystones above their heads. The second floor has two horizontally sliding sashes flanking a 2-light fixed casement. The ground floor has two 4-pane sashes flanking a central entrance. This entrance has a rusticated doorcase, a moulded cornice, a Gothick glazed overlight, and a six-panel door. At the rear of the left-hand part of the building, on the three upper floors, is a Venetian window, with the central light featuring a Gothick glazed sash. The rear of the right-hand part of the building is four storeys high. To the left is a canted bay window rising from the ground floor to the second floor. To the right is a canted bay window with a modillioned cornice on the first floor. A semi-circular headed 2-light casement with Gothick glazing is centrally placed on the rear elevation. The third floor has a horizontally sliding sash to the right. The second floor has a central window with a segmental pointed head, a fixed casement, and a 4-pane sash under a segmental head to the right. The ground floor has a central two-leaf door under a flat head. To the right is a flat roof, supported on two stone Doric columns. Inside the building, the main staircase has a moulded handrail, turned balusters, and an open string.
