Description
Number 48, known as The Antiquary, is a house with an attached garage located on the south side of High Street in Bewdley. It dates from the early 18th century and has undergone alterations in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The house is constructed of brick and features a tile roof, while the coachhouse has a slate roof.
The house stands two storeys tall with an attic, which is illuminated by two flat-roofed dormers. It has boarded eaves and a band at the ground floor level. There are two late 19th-century square bay windows that extend through both floors, each with a flat roof and a moulded wooden cornice. Each bay window contains two 4-pane sash windows at the front. The ground floor of the right-hand bay serves as a porch, featuring an overlight, stained glass sidelights, and a two-leaf door, with each leaf having three raised and fielded panels.
The coachhouse, located to the left, is a single storey with a loft that is lit by two circular windows. It has a dentilled brick cornice and a coach entrance with a semi-elliptical arch, flanked by two boarded doors. This building is included for its group value.
