Description

Lower Blackstone Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early 17th century, with extensions from the early 18th century and some alterations from the late 18th century and late 20th century. It features a timber-frame structure with painted brick underbuilding and a tiled roof. The farmhouse consists of three framed bays, with a central hall that has a stack to the north and a baffle entry from the west. The north bay serves as a heated parlour, while the south bay is an unheated service area. A brick bay has been added to the north end, and a service wing has been added to the east against the service bay.

On the east front, there is a gabled service wing to the left with a gable end stack and a late 20th-century flat-roofed extension that forms a large porch. To the right, the rest of the building features a tiled pentice roof on the ground floor, with two 2-light casement windows and a central entrance with a ledged door, along with a single-storey brick extension to the right. The left (south) gable has a jettied tie-beam, and the ground floor was originally jettied. The first floor features a canted oriel window with a sill supported by consoles, which also support the tie-beam. The framing of this gable consists of three square panels high with straight tension braces. The north gable end is similarly jettied and has close-studding on the ground floor.
