Description

The Bewdley War Memorial is a First World War memorial that was erected in 1920. It is located within the churchyard to the north of the Church of St Leonard, which is a Grade I listed building and serves as the mother church for Bewdley. The memorial features a small Latin cross with capped arms, which is mounted on a tapering square column that has a carved capital. This column is set upon a square pedestal with a moulded cornice and a three-stepped base. The memorial stands approximately 5 meters high. The main inscription, which is in incised lettering on the east face of the pedestal, reads: "TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN LOVING MEMORY OF THE SEVENTY SIX MEN OF BEWDLEY WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES FOR THEIR COUNTRY IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-1919."
