Description

Yew Tree Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early 17th century, with extensions added in the late 17th century. The building features an exposed timber-frame structure with brick infill that has been painted white. It has a plain-tiled roof that is hipped at both ends, and the internal stack has been rebuilt above the ridge. Originally, the farmhouse consisted of three bays, including a narrower chimney bay, with an entry to a cross-passage at the end of the hall. The late 17th-century extensions added narrower service bays at each end and a single bay at the rear. The farmhouse has one storey and attics, with two modern dormers and four 20th-century three cross-frame casements on the ground floor, one of which replaces the original doorway. The framing is mostly exposed, although some parts, particularly in the centre bay, have been replaced. Each wall features small framing that is three panels high, with curved upward bracing in the centre bay. The end bays are of a later date but have similar small framing. The rear wing is timber-framed with red brick on the gable end and has an end stack. Inside, the two original centre bays are present, featuring a moulded main beam, although the joists are unmoulded. There is an inglenook hearth, and at the west end, the single-bay service addition retains the original partition wall between the buttery and pantry. The roof is a through-purlin type, wind-braced with studs between the collar and tie beam.
