Description
This is a dovecote located about 50 yards north-west of Huddington Court, dating from the 17th century and restored in the early to mid-20th century. It has a timber frame with rendered infill sitting on a sandstone plinth and features a plain tiled roof. The structure has a square plan and consists of two levels. The framing includes three panels from the sill to the wall-plate, collar and tie-beam trusses with two collars, three struts to the lower collar, and one strut to the upper collar.
On the east elevation, there is a 2-light leaded casement window on both the ground and first floors, along with a ledged and battened door. The south elevation also features a similar ground-floor window. The roof is topped with a central gabled timber lantern that includes entry holes and alighting ledges. Inside, a floor has been inserted, but no nesting boxes remain. It is reported that the dovecote may have been relocated to Huddington Court from another site.
