Description

Nos 1 and 2 Poole Cottages is a house that has been divided into two dwellings. It dates from the 17th century and has undergone alterations in the mid-19th century and mid-20th century. The building is timber-framed with painted brick and rendered infill, resting on a base of lias limestone rubble and brick, and features plain tiled roofs. It consists of three framed bays aligned east to west and is two storeys high.

The framing includes four rows of panels extending from the sill to the wall-plate, with long straight braces in some of the lower corners. The roof structure consists of collar and tie-beam trusses with two collars, four struts to the lower collar, three to the upper collar, and a V-strut in the apex. The south front elevation displays irregular fenestration; on the ground floor, there is one square light, three two-light casements, and a rectangular light. The first floor features two two-light casements and a three-light wood-mullioned window with leaded lights. There are also two ledged and battened doors, with the left door and adjacent windows positioned beneath a continuous plank weathering. The building has two 19th-century chimneys on the rear roof pitch. The interior has not been inspected. Additionally, there are three 20th-century lean-to additions, two located on the rear elevation and one at the west gable end.
