Description

Huddington Hill Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from 1706, although it likely incorporates an earlier 17th-century building, with alterations made in the mid-19th century and mid-20th century. The construction is part timber-framed with brick infill, with areas of brick refacing using both handmade and machine-made brick. It has plain tiled roofs. The building follows an H-plan, consisting of a three-bay main block aligned east to west, a central porch wing, and two-bay cross-wings. A sandstone chimney with a brick stack is located in the easternmost bay, while the west wing features an external chimney with off-sets. The farmhouse has two storeys and a cellar. Most windows and door openings have cambered heads. The south front elevation includes largely 20th-century casement windows, a ground-floor two-light window, a blocked window opening, a bay window in the angle with the right side of the porch, and a brick stack to the left of the porch. The porch wing has an archway and a two-light window in the gable. A sandstone sundial dated 1706 sits above the archway, and the porch contains a door with four raised and fielded panels, and a moulded architrave. The left gable end has a two-light window on both the ground and first floors, a blocked first-floor window, and a door with six raised and fielded panels and a flat canopy. The right gable end has two ground-floor two-light windows, and an attic light. Inside, there are stop-chamfered main ceiling beams with run-out stops, exposed timber framing in the west wall, and large back-to-back fireplaces in the central bay and the east wing.
