Description

Woodfield Cottage is a cottage that likely dates back to the early 17th century and was restored in the late 20th century. It features a timber-framed structure with rendered infill, replacement timbers, and brick walling. The roof is tiled and has a group of three brick ridge stacks, with the outer stacks being star-shaped and having a cogged course at the base and joint cap. There is also an external brick stack with offsets and a lean-to bread oven at the east gable end, which has a dentilled course at the base of the stack.

The cottage consists of four framed bays and is a single storey with an attic that includes dormers. The framing includes three square panels from the sill to the wall-plate, with short straight braces in the upper corners, and tie-beam trusses with two collars and queen struts in the gable ends. The front elevation has two 2-light casements, a rectangular stair light, and a gabled dormer with tile-hung cheeks and a 2-light casement. The main entrance is located at the rear and features a lean-to porch supported by timber uprights and a 20th-century door. There are attic lights in the gable ends and an additional entrance in the west gable end.

Inside, the roof has two rows of trenched purlins, an intermediate tie-beam truss with two collars, and above the central two-bay hall part, there is a pair of upper cruck blades.
