Description

Woodfield House is a late 18th-century house, with alterations and extensions from the early and mid-19th century. It is constructed of painted brick with a partly hipped slate roof and brick end stacks to the main part, as well as rear stacks. The main block is three storeys and has a cellar, featuring a central three-bay façade with two-storey, two-bay wings on either side, the latter slightly recessed. A moulded eaves cornice and blocking course run along the top of the building. All windows have cambered heads with voussoirs and moulded dropped keyblocks, and are glazing bar sashes. The outer ground and first floor windows of the central block are 16-pane sashes, with 8-pane sashes on the second floor; the central bay has a 6-pane sash on the second floor. The central entrance is distinguished by an Ionic portico with a wrought iron balcony, half-glazed double doors, and a transom light with four glazing bars. The side wings have glazing bar sashes, although the lower sashes of the ground floor windows have been replaced with plate glass. C19 two-storey wings with dentilled eaves cornices adjoin the main block on the right side and to the rear. The interior remains uninspected.
