Description
Slate Cottage is a cottage dating from the early 17th century, with 20th-century additions and alterations. It features a timber-framed structure with painted brick infill and a slate roof. There are brick external stacks with slate offsets at the left gable end and another stack at the rear left. The cottage has two framed bays, with the right bay appearing to have been extended. It is a single storey with an attic that includes rear dormers. The building has square panels, three from the sill to the wall-plate, and long straight braces in the lower corners at both the front and rear. The left gable end displays an exposed queen strut truss with V-struts in the apex.
On the front elevation, there is a ground floor casement window in the left bay, while the right bay has an outshut with four skylights and a 20th-century timber door at the angle with the main part of the cottage. Inside, there is an intermediate queen strut truss and single, trenched purlins, with the main beams being stop-chamfered. There is also a 20th-century extension at the right gable end.
