Description

The Fold North and The Fold South are probable 17th-century farmhouses, now used as a pair of cottages. The buildings have undergone alterations and additions in the 20th century. They are timber-framed with painted brick infill, brick replacement walling and a brick plinth. The roofs are tiled, with brick gable end stacks featuring tiled offsets. Originally three framed bays, the cottages have entrances in their gable ends and are single-story with an attic containing dormers. The timber framing is characterized by square panels, extending from the sill to the wall-plate, set on a high plinth. Long straight braces are visible in the north gable end, the front right bay, and the rear. Queen strut trusses are exposed in the gable ends. The front elevation features irregular window placement, including four ground-floor casements with plank weatherboards, a 20th-century bracketed window in the left end bay, and three dormers with casements. Internally, the buildings have been altered, with a roof featuring an intermediate queen strut truss and single, trenched purlins. 20th-century extensions are located at the rear of the property.
