Description

April Cottage is a cottage dating from the 17th century, with additions and alterations made in the mid-20th century. The building features part timber framing with painted brick infill, brick refacing, and a combination of brick and tiled roofs. There are brick stacks at the gable ends of the older section. The cottage consists of two framed bays and includes a 20th-century cross-wing. It has a single storey and an attic with dormers.

The main elevation faces east, where the 17th-century part has two ground floor casements and two first floor hipped dormers with casements. There is a glazed door in the right bay beneath a lean-to porch. The gable end of the 20th-century cross-wing features glazed double doors flanked by narrow sidelights and two casements in the attic. Inside, there is an intermediate interrupted tie-beam truss, single trenched purlins, and some of the main beams are stop-chamfered. A 20th-century single storey extension is attached to the south side elevation. The main entrance is now located in a two-storey gabled projection on the side elevation of the cross-wing. Additionally, there is a well located to the east of the 17th-century part.
