Description

Winnall Cottage is a 17th-century cottage, with alterations and additions made in the mid-19th century and mid-20th century. The cottage is timber-framed with painted brick infill, brick replacement walling, and sandstone rubble and brick plinth. It has a plain tiled roof and an external brick chimney on the east side. The building consists of two framed bays and has an entrance in the south gable end, with a single storey and attic layout. The timber framing has three square panels from sill to wall-plate, with short straight braces in the upper corners and collar-and-tie-beam trusses. The south-facing entrance elevation features a 20th-century lean-to glazed porch and door, and a two-light casement in the attic. The west side has a three-light casement, and the east side has a lean-to addition adjacent to the chimney. A flat-roofed, 20th-century extension is located at the rear gable end.
