Description

Bullhill Farmhouse is an early 17th century timber-framed farmhouse, partially bricked on the ground floor. It is of a traditional hall and cross-wing layout, with a central hearth and cross passage. The building comprises a three-bay upper wing, a two-bay centre range, and a single-bay lower wing. A cellar is situated under the right-hand service wing.

The north front is two storeys with an attic in the gables. It features three gables; a projecting cross wing to the left, and a pair of gables above the entrance and at the service end to the right. The fenestration is irregular, with 20th century metal casements—four on the first floor, two on the ground floor, and two small attic windows retaining leading. A 20th century porch shelters the plank entrance door and side light, located in the middle gable. Four chimneys are present: one roughly central to the hall range, one roughly central and a larger external stack at the gable end of the right cross wing, and a fourth on the return of the right wing. The timber framing exhibits regular square panels, originally four from sill to eaves, but now mostly from mid-rail to eaves. V-struts are visible in the gables, curved in the upper cross wing, with weather planks at sill and lintel levels.
