Description
The threshing barn, two cowhouses, two pigsties, stable block, implement shed, and closing wall are early 19th-century agricultural buildings located to the northwest of Syntley Farmhouse. Constructed from red brick with tiled roofs, these structures form a U-shape around a yard, which is enclosed by a wall on the south side.
The stable block, situated to the southeast, is two storeys tall and features three lunettes on the first floor and one in the centre of the ground floor. The entrance on the right has an elliptical headed archway, while the entrance on the left has been altered. The gable end facing the fold yard also has a lunette on the first floor. To the north, there are two double pigsties, followed by a single-storey cowhouse with three bays and a bull or calf pen that includes a pigeon loft in the gable end. Both the doors and windows have elliptical heads.
On the north side, the large barn consists of nine bays and features three threshing floors. It has elliptical headed archways set in rebated reveals, a cogged eaves cornice, and perforated brick ventilation. Inside, brick cross walls support the roof. A modern steel-framed extension partially obscures the barn but is not included in the listing. The second cowhouse to the west has been altered and shows only remnants of its former arched doorway and window, but it is included for group value. The implement shed, located to the southwest, has three bays and retains a roundel in the gable end; it has also been altered and is included for group value.
