Description
This is an early 17th-century house with later alterations. It is timber-framed, incorporating painted brick infill. The left wing is largely underbuilt with coursed red sandstone, and has a plain brick stack. The house features a central, floored hall of two bays with a through passage to the left of the central stack, and projecting two-bay wings. The upper wing and hall are two storeys high with an attic in the gable, while the lower wing is single-storey with a gable attic and a cellar. The fenestration is irregular, with two metal casements in the left gable, one two-light metal casement in the right gable, and a small four-light window on the first floor, one light of which is blocked, with ovolo moulded mullions below the stack. A two-light metal casement and a smaller window are present in the right wing; the ground floor of both wings each have three casements set in altered framing panels. The hall has two two-light metal casements to the left of the entrance. The house has a heavy ledge door and leaded panes throughout. The rear elevation features similar irregular fenestration, including an ovolo moulded mullion window on the first floor of the hall. The timber framing on the upper wing is three small panels high to each floor. The hall framing consists of three larger panels from sill to wall-plate. The lower wing framing was altered due to the stone underbuilding. Originally, it probably featured three panels from sill to wall-plate. Straight diagonal bracing runs from sill to central post. The left gable has two collars with four and two queen struts and V-struts above, while the right gable has two collars with three and two queen struts and curved V-struts above. Timber weathering is present over window sills. The interior was not inspected. Late 18th-century outbuildings adjoin the right side of the property and are not included in the listing.
