Description

The Cottage is a late 17th- to early 18th-century timber-framed cottage located in Astley Burf, Astley. It was originally listed as "Cottage north west of Woodlands Farmhouse". The construction incorporates painted brick to the mid-rail, and a tiled roof. Originally a single-cell dwelling, it features a gable entry and a large external stack on the east side. A brick outshut was added to the north, followed later by larger brick additions to the west. The cottage is single-storey with an attic. It has a two-light wooden casement window facing south, and a casement window in the gable. A simple plank door is positioned to the right of the stack within the outshut. The timber framing originally extended three panels high from the sill to the wall-plate, with straight bracing from the mid-rail to the wall-plate and a short brace from post to tie-beam in the gable. Timber weathering is visible above the windows.
