Description
Thorngrove Lodge is an entrance lodge located in Grimley, dating from the mid-19th century with 20th-century alterations and additions. The building is constructed of orange brick with blue brick dressings and detailing, topped with a tiled roof featuring bands of fishscale tiles and overhanging eaves. It has a brick rear stack with oversailing cap courses and is designed in the cottage ornée style. The lodge has an L-shaped plan, is single storey with an attic, and features gable ends with pierced, scalloped bargeboards and pendant finials. The blue brick base includes quoins, diaper patterns, and a decorative cogged string course that forms hoods over the windows and entrance. The entrance elevation, facing north, has a gabled porch with a brick base and timber uprights, a 20th-century half-glazed door, and an attic casement. The side elevations have bay windows with pent roofs. The interior has not been inspected. There is a 20th-century single storey extension attached to the rear and west of the building.
