Description
The Dallows is a house that likely dates from the late 16th century, with expansions and a new front added in the mid-18th century, along with a 19th-century addition. The building is constructed of brick in English bond, with some timber framing and brick infill at the rear. It features a tiled roof, gable end parapets, and external brick chimneys with tiled offsets and oversailing cap courses.
The house has two storeys, an attic with dormers, and a cellar, all topped with a dentilled eaves cornice. It is three bays wide, with all windows featuring stone sills and cambered heads. The arches are made of orange brick stretchers and blue headers, and the windows are primarily 3-light casements, except for a 2-light window in the center of the first floor. The dormers have segmental heads, curved lead roofs, and 2-light casements. The central doorway is adorned with an open pediment and pilasters, and the door itself has raised and fielded panels along with a traceried segmental fanlight.
At the rear, there is a timber-framed wing that consists of a single framed bay with an external gable end stack. This wing is two storeys high and has two rows of closely set vertical studding visible at the first-floor level. Inside, there is a mid-18th-century staircase with turned balusters, and the rear wing features a ceiling with stop-chamfered cross beams. Additionally, a late 19th-century wing is attached to the rear timber-framed wing.
