Description

This is a barn located about 15 yards north-west of Rectory Farmhouse, dating from the early 17th century. It features a timber frame built on a plinth of lias limestone rubble and brick, with weatherboarding and a corrugated iron roof. The barn has seven framed bays oriented north-west to south-east, with a wagon bay that includes opposed cart entries and double doors positioned third from the north-west end. On the north-east elevation, there are three square openings, a door, and two stable doors to the left of the wagon bay. Inside, the wall-frame consists of three panels from the sill to the wall-plate, with long straight braces in the lower corners. The structure includes collar and tie-beam trusses with struts, a single tier of purlins, and some swept wind-braces. The three bays to the south-east are floored and may have been added later. This barn is prominently situated between Rectory Farmhouse and the Church of St Peter Ad Vincula.
