Description

TIBBERTON CP CHURCH LANE (west side) SO 95 NW 6/204 (18/87) Barn about 15 yards north-west of 9.12.75 Rectory Farmhouse GV II

Barn. Early C17. Timber-framed on lias limestone rubble and brick plinth, weatherboarded with corrugated iron roof. Seven framed bays aligned north- west/south-east; wagon bay with opposed cart entries and double doors situated third from north-west end. North-east elevation: three square openings, a door and two stable doors to the left of the wagon bay. Interior: wall-frame of three panels from sill to wall-plate with long straight braces across lower corners; collar and tie-beam trusses with struts, single tier of purlins and some swept wind-braces. The three bays to the south-east are floored and may have been added at a later date. This barn occupies a prominent position between Rectory Farmhouse (qv) and the Church of St Peter Ad Vincula (qv). (VCH 3 (ii), p 537; BoE, p 280).
