Description

The Baches is a cottage dating from the early 17th century, with alterations and additions made in the mid-19th century. It features a timber-framed structure with rendered infill and some brick replacement walling, topped by a plain tiled roof. An external brick chimney is located at the left gable end, complete with offsets and paired square detached brick shafts that have a combined cap. The cottage consists of three framed bays and is a single storey with an attic that includes dormers.

The framing includes three square panels from the sill to the wall-plate, a long straight brace in the right lower corner of the central front bay, and short straight upper corner braces. The roof structure comprises collar-and-tie-beam trusses with queen struts and a V-strut in the apex at the left gable end, while the right gable end has been replaced with brick.

On the front elevation, there are three windows: two 2-light casements and a pair of 2-light casements, along with two gabled dormers that feature a 2-light and a 3-light casement. Additionally, there are two ledged and battened doors, and attic lights are present in the gable ends. Inside, the cottage has intermediate collar-and-tie-beam trusses with a single row of trenched purlins, and the main beams are stop-chamfered. A single storey extension is attached to the rear right of the building.
