Description
The granary, located about 30 yards west of Bickley Farmhouse, dates from the mid-18th century and underwent alterations in the mid-19th century. It features a combination of timber framing with brick infill and brick construction, topped with a half-hipped plain tiled roof. The structure consists of two bays oriented east to west and has two levels; the lower level was originally open for cart storage, while the upper level is supported by square brick piers on the sides. The openings have been boarded up. The framing includes a truncated collar and tie-beam truss with struts at the west gable end, while the east gable end has been rebuilt in brick. There are windows at each gable end, and steps in the east bay provide access to the upper level. Inside, the roof features a single tier of purlins and an intermediate collar and tie-beam truss with raking struts. Additionally, there is a 19th-century lean-to extension attached to the east gable end. The granary is part of a group with Bickley Farmhouse.
