Description

This granary, dating from the early to mid-19th century, is located approximately 10 meters west of Oldfields Farmhouse. It features a timber frame with red brick nogging set on a dressed red sandstone plinth, while the rear wall has been rebuilt in brick. The roof is covered with plain tiles. The structure has light framing with long straight tension braces and consists of two framed bays, standing one storey high with a loft. There are three loft openings, two of which are louvred, along with a boarded window on the ground floor to the right and a central boarded door. The granary has collar and tie-beam end trusses with queen struts. To the left, there is a one-storey brick addition that includes a segmental-headed window and a segmental-headed stable door to the right. Inside, the granary features a central tie-beam truss with a king post and side struts, single purlins, and a central cross frame with tension braces. The structure incorporates some older timbers, likely reused from Oldfields Farmhouse during its 19th-century alterations, particularly in the corner posts and tie-beams. This granary is included for its group value with Oldfields Farmhouse.
