SJ 63 NW MORETON SAY C.P. -

5/98 Granary approx. 10 metres to west of Old- fields Farmhouse GV II

Granary. Early to mid-C19, incorporating some C14 fabric. Timber framed with red brick nogging on dressed red sandstone plinth. Rear wall rebuilt in brick. Plain tile roof. Framing: light framing with long straight tension braces. 2 framed bays. One storey and loft. 3 loft openings, 2 to outside louvred; ground-floor boarded window to right and central boarded door. Collar and tie-beam end trusses with queen struts. One-storey brick addition to left with segmental-headed window and segmental-headed stable door to right. Interior: central tie-beam truss with king post and side struts. Single purlins. Central cross frame with tension braces. The granary incorporates some old timbers, probably reused from Oldfields Farmhouse (q.v.) when it was altered in the C19 (see corner posts and tie-beams). Included for group value.
