Description

Rhiews Farmhouse is a farmhouse, now a house, that dates from the early to mid-17th century, with an addition from the late 17th or early 18th century, and alterations and an addition from the late 19th or early 19th century. The building is timber framed with painted brick nogging on a brick plinth, and has a rendered gable end to the southeast. It has been partly rebuilt and extended in brick that is painted to resemble timber framing, and features a machine tile roof.

The framing consists of tall rectangular panels, with two panels extending from the sole plate to the former wall plate, and short straight corner braces. The farmhouse has a baffle-entry plan with two framed bays and a circa 1700 addition to the southeast. It is two storeys high.

On the northeast front, there is an off-centre brick ridge stack located to the right. The front has four windows, which include 20th-century two-, three-, and four-light metal casements. There is a 19th-century four-panelled door, which is lower flush, situated between the first and second windows from the right, and it has a lean-to porch.

The right-hand gable end features a slightly jettied gable with a chamfered tie-beam and truss that includes two collars, queen struts, a king strut, and curved v-struts. The gable end has 20th-century three-light casements. Additionally, there is a late 19th-century two-storey rear wing, and the eaves were raised, likely in the early 20th century, as indicated by an extra panel beneath the eaves and the truss in the gable end.
