Description
The granary, located approximately 25 meters southeast of Church Farmhouse, dates from the mid-18th century and has undergone later alterations. It features a clapboarded timber frame with a brick plinth in parts and a side wall made of flint and brick. The roof is covered with pantiles and the structure has a three-bay plan. There is a first-floor doorway at the north end, while the ground floor is partly open on the west side. This granary is narrower and situated above what was once a cartshed on the ground floor. It is partially supported by samson posts with straight braces connecting to the bridging joists, which are jointed into the principal posts below the wall-plate level. The end walls are framed, and the interior side walls of the granary are made of close boarding on nailed stud work. The roof consists of four bays with wedge-tenoned butt purlins and finely cambered collars, featuring a ridge board and short straight braces from the wall plates to the principal rafters. Many shaped rafter ends are still visible. There are also 19th-century extensions to the structure.
