Description

HUDDINGTON CP HUDDINGTON SO 95 NW 6/181 (19/22A) Dovecote about 50 yards north-east of 29.12.52 Huddington Court GV II

Dovecote. C17, restored early to mid-C20. Timber-framed with rendered infill on sandstone and lias limestone rubble plinth; plain tiled roof. Square plan. Framing: three panels from sill to wall-plate; short straight upper corner braces and collar and tie-beam trusses with three struts to collar and V-struts in apex. South elevation has a ledged and battened door and leaded transom light; 2-light leaded casement in west elevation. Roof has a central gabled timber lantern with entry holes and alighting ledges. Interior: almost 125 nesting boxes survive on the west wall. The dovecote appears to have been re-erected and is reported as having probably been brought to Huddington Court (qv) from elsewhere.
