Description
This is a dovecote located about 50 yards north-east of Huddington Court, dating from the 17th century and restored in the early to mid-20th century. It features a timber frame with rendered infill set on a plinth made of sandstone and lias limestone rubble, topped with a plain tiled roof. The dovecote has a square plan and its framing includes three panels from the sill to the wall-plate, short straight upper corner braces, and collar and tie-beam trusses with three struts to the collar and V-struts in the apex.
The south elevation has a ledged and battened door with a leaded transom light above it, while the west elevation contains a 2-light leaded casement window. The roof is adorned with a central gabled timber lantern that has entry holes and alighting ledges for the birds. Inside, there are almost 125 nesting boxes remaining on the west wall. It is believed that this dovecote was re-erected and may have been moved to its current location from elsewhere, possibly brought to Huddington Court.
