Description

No. 82 High Street is a house that has been converted into a shop. It likely dates from the mid-18th century and has undergone several alterations, including the addition of a third storey, a new first-floor window, and stucco work, probably between 1820 and 1840. The ground-floor shop front was updated in the 1970s.

The building features stucco over brick with a plain tile roof and has a gable end facing the front. It stands four storeys tall, with one window on the first floor and two windows on the upper floors. The stucco detailing includes outer Doric pilasters on the first floor, a continuous frieze and cornice, and a wide frieze with an additional cornice that forms a continuous sill band above the second-floor windows, which is accented by low plinths at the ends. The cornice over the second floor serves as a sill band for the third floor.

The windows are detailed with tooled architraves: the first floor has a wide 40-pane fixed-light window, the second floor features 6/6 sash windows, and the third floor has 3/3 sash windows, all set in plain reveals. The building is topped with a low coped parapet and has a glazed shop front with a glazed window.

Inside, the ground floor has been gutted, while the first floor contains two column-cluster stanchions. The rest of the interior has not been inspected.
