Description

No. 34 High Street is a house that has been converted into a shop with offices. It dates from the mid-18th century and has undergone later additions and alterations, including a ground floor shop front added around the 1980s. The building is finished in stucco over brick, featuring an ashlar cornice and a concealed roof. It stands three storeys tall with three first-floor windows. The stucco detailing includes rounded and fluted end pilasters from the first floor, a moulded cornice, and a low coped parapet. The windows are 6/6 sashes set in shallow reveals with sills and fluted, coped keystones. The ground floor features a plate-glass shop front that is canted into a glazed entrance on the right side. The interior has no original features or evidence of the original plan remaining on the ground floor, and the rest of the interior has not been inspected. Nos. 25, 26, and 27, along with Nos. 31-34, form a notable group of listed buildings on the High Street, opposite the Guildhall.
