Description
No. 85 High Street is a house dating from around 1750, which now serves as the entrance to the Chapel Walk shopping centre with offices above. The building has undergone later alterations, including renovations in the 1980s. It is constructed of pinkish-brown brick in Flemish bond, featuring flat arches made of gauged brick and renewed ashlar keystones. The eaves have been renewed, and the roof is covered with machine tiles. A brick stack is located on the left party wall, complete with an oversailing course and pots. The structure has three storeys with attics and two first-floor windows. Throughout the building, there are 6/6 sash windows in near-flush frames, all with renewed sills and flat arches of gauged brick with renewed keystones. The attic dormers have also been renewed and feature 6/6 sashes. The ground floor has been transformed into an open walkway.
