Description
No. 13 The Tything is a terraced house that has been converted into a shop. It dates from around 1820 and has undergone later additions and alterations. The building features painted stucco and has a concealed roof. The left side has a rebuilt chimney stack with an oversailing detail and pots. The shopfront is made of stucco and timber.
The house is situated on a narrow burgage plot, with its main axis running at right angles to the street. It has three storeys and one first-floor window. The stucco detailing includes a moulded cornice and a blocking course at the parapet, a window sill on the second floor, a central arched recess on the first floor, and pilasters, fascia, and cornice on the shopfront. The first-floor window has an 8/12 sash in the recess, while the second-floor window has an 8/8 sash, both set in plain reveals. The mid-20th century timber and plate-glass shopfront is integrated within the earlier stucco details, with a recessed entrance to the right. The interior has not been inspected.
