Description
No. 11 The Tything is a terraced house that has been converted into a restaurant. It dates from the late 18th century and has undergone later additions and alterations. The building is constructed of painted brick with stucco dressings and features a hipped plain clay tile roof. There is an altered stack with pots on the right side and a timber shopfront.
The plan consists of a narrow burgage plot, with the main axis running at right angles to the street. The facade is asymmetric, with three storeys and a cellar. There are two first-floor windows, and the detailing includes projecting eaves courses, stucco sills, and a panel below the oriel window. The left first-floor has an inserted oriel window featuring an 8/8 sash with a fixed 8-pane window to the return, while the right side has a 2/2 sash. The second floor has 6/6 sashes, all set in near-flush frames with sills and segmental arches above the openings. To the right, there is a simple early 20th-century shopfront with a plate-glass window and a glazed door. The former doorway to the left of the facade has been converted to a glazed feature. The interior has not been inspected.
