Description
The Dragon Inn is an inn dating from the early 19th century, with later additions and alterations. It is constructed of reddish brick in Flemish bond, with stucco on the ground floor, and features stuccoed sills, cornices, and a parapet. The building has three storeys and three first-floor windows. Notable stucco detailing includes horizontal rustication on the ground floor. The first floor has six-over-six sash windows, while the second floor has three-over-six sash windows, all set in plain reveals with sills and flat arches made of gauged brick.
On the ground floor, there is a central entrance with a panel door and a divided overlight. To the left is a wide window that has been renewed, and to the right are a pair of plank carriage doors. The ground floor is topped with a continuous frieze and a modillion cornice, and it features a crowning frieze, a moulded cornice, and a low, coped parapet. Inside, the ground floor includes an early 19th-century stick-baluster staircase with a wreathed handrail.
The Dragon Inn is part of a group with Nos 51 to 54 and Nos 57 and 58, which together create a visual approach to listed buildings on Foregate Street.
