Description
Numbers 7 and 8 The Tything are two houses that have been converted into shops. They were built around 1800 and have undergone later additions and alterations, including the installation of shop fronts in the 1980s. The buildings are constructed of reddish brick in Flemish bond, featuring stone sills and copings. They have a concealed roof and a tall brick stack at the right end with an oversailing course and pots, as well as a truncated left end stack with pots. The structure is three storeys high, with one window on the ground floor and two on the first floor.
On the first floor, there is an 8/8 flush sash window on the left, followed by two 6/6 sash windows in plain reveals. The second floor features a 4/8 flush sash window on the left, followed by two 3/3 sash windows, all with sills and flat arches made of gauged brick. The building has a low coped parapet. The ground floor has Victorian-style glazed shop fronts that have been renewed, with entrances located off-centre to the left.
The interior has not been inspected. Numbers 1, 4 to 7 (consecutive) form a group with numbers 51 to 54 (consecutive) and numbers 57 and 58 The Tything. This group creates a visual approach to the listed buildings on Foregate Street.
