Description
1 The Tything is a house that has been converted into offices. It dates from the late 18th century and has undergone some alterations since then. The building is constructed of brick, which has been colourwashed, and features a concealed roof. It stands three storeys tall and has four first-floor windows, with the right part of the building set back slightly. The windows are 6/6 near-flush-frame sashes, all with sills and flat arches made of gauged brick. The central entrance consists of a six-panel door topped with a fanlight and an open pediment supported by corbels. The building is topped with a low, coped parapet that is raised at the center.
The interior has not been inspected. The building is situated at a significant junction where The Tything meets Foregate Street, St Mary's Street, and Castle Street. Number 1, along with Nos 4 to 7, forms a group with Nos 51 to 54 and Nos 57 and 58. This group contributes to the visual approach to the listed buildings located on Foregate Street.
