Description
14 and 15 The Tything are two terraced houses that have been converted into offices. They were originally built around 1770, with a refronting of an earlier property and some later additions and alterations. The exterior is finished in painted stucco over brick, topped with a plain clay tile roof that has a hip to the right and is partially hidden behind a coped parapet. There are rebuilt brick stacks with oversailing detail and pots located at the rear left and right of the building. The entrances feature timber doorcases.
The houses are situated on a narrow burgage plot, oriented at right angles to the road. They stand three storeys tall with attics and have five first-floor windows arranged in a 2:3 pattern. The stucco detailing includes sills and a plinth. The left house has 1/1 and 2/2 sash windows, while the right house features 6/6 sashes, except for the ground floor which has 8/8 sashes; all windows have near-flush frames. The entrances are located on the right and left sides, each with coupled Tuscan-style pilaster doorcases, 6-panel doors with raised and fielded upper panels and flush-triple-beaded lower panels, and radial pattern fanlights. There are box dormers, with a 3-light casement on the left and a 2-light casement on the right. The interior has not been inspected.
