Description
No. 24 St Johns, formerly known as the Angel Inn, is an inn that has been converted into a shop and flats. It was built between 1830 and 1840, with later additions and alterations. The building is constructed of brick and stucco and is topped with a slate roof featuring dentilled eaves. A glazed metal lantern is mounted on a wrought-iron bracket. The building has a dog-legged plan with a through vehicular access on the right side. It stands three storeys high and includes a cellar.
On the first floor, there are three windows. The stucco detailing includes sills, a fully stuccoed ground floor with pilasters, a fascia, and a cornice above the first-floor ill-band. Below the second-floor sills, there is a long recessed rectangular panel with a moulded surround that displays the name "The Angel Inn." The centre window on the first floor is blind and is flanked by 6/6 sash windows, while the second-floor windows are 3/3 sash, all set in plain reveals with flat gauged brick arches. The left side of the ground floor features a large mullion and transom window with a segmental arched head and transom lights above the sill. There are vertically boarded doors leading to the vehicular entrance set back to the right, along with a replacement glazed pedestrian door in the left return, which has a blind overlight. The interior has not been inspected.
