Description
No. 7 St Johns is a terraced house that has been converted into a shop and flats. It dates from the mid-18th century and has undergone later additions and alterations. The building is constructed of painted brick and features a plain clay tile roof with dentilled eaves. There is a left-end ridge stack with oversailing detail and pots. It sits on a narrow burgage plot, oriented at right angles to the street, and has three storeys.
The first floor has two windows, which are 6/6 sash windows set under flat gauged brick arches. The second floor features 3/3 sash windows, all with near-flush frames and sills. The 19th-century shopfront includes a central entrance in a splayed recess, with paired glazed doors and an overlight. The shopfront is adorned with pilasters, ornate console brackets, a fascia, and a cornice, along with a panelled stall-riser.
Inside, the building retains some early features such as panelled doors, architraves, a staircase with slender turned balusters, and a fitted alcove cupboard with shelving that has an arched head and curved back.
