Description
14 and 16 St Johns are two terraced houses that may have originally been a single dwelling. They date from around 1780 to 1800 and have since been converted into two shops with flats above. The buildings are constructed of red brick with stone sills and feature a plain clay tile roof with two spans and dentilled eaves. They have a double-depth plan with a central through-passage that provides access to the upper floors, where the rooms interlock over the passage area. The houses rise to three storeys and have three first-floor windows arranged in a 2:1 pattern. The first-floor windows are designed as 1/1:1/1:6/6, while the second-floor windows are 3/3. All windows are set in near-flush frames with sills and have flat gauged brick arches above the first-floor windows. The shopfronts were added in the mid to late 20th century. The interior has not been inspected.
