TENBURY CP LOWER BERRINGTON SO 56 NE 2/103 Barn and stables about 30 yards south-east of Brook Farmhouse

Barn and stables. Probably circa 1700, altered mid-C19 and mid-C20. Part timber-framed and weatherboarded on rubble base, part brick with plain tiled and corrugated iron roof. L-plan. Barn of six framed bays aligned north-east/ south-west with wagon bay and opposed cart entries situated in second bay from north-east end. North-west elevation has corrugated iron lean-to canopy on timber post above cart entrance and a ledged and battened door and a lean-to outshut with a catslide roof to the right of the cart entrance. Interior: wall- framing has four panels from sill to wall-plate, some short straight lower corner braces. Collar and tie-beam trusses with struts, some intermediate tie-beam trusses and two C20 inserted brick partitions (one of the intermed- iate roof trusses incorporates a re-used cruck blade). There is a single tier of purlins. Stable adjoins to north-west. Three bays. Two levels. Central and north-westernmost bay are of brick and have a two-course band at upper floor level. Eleven tiers of pigeon holes and alighting ledges at north- west gable end. Also two tiers beneath eaves level on south-west side. South- west elevation has two ground floor 2-light windows, an upper floor square window and a ledged and battened door.
