Description

Lower Town Farmhouse is a farmhouse that dates from the 16th century or earlier, with early 19th century and mid-19th century alterations. The building features part timber framing with rendered and painted brick infill, as well as brick replacement walling and refacing. It has a slate roof, with a brick stack at the west end and a rubble chimney with a diagonally-set brick stack located to the east of the center. The farmhouse consists of three main bays and a through-passage bay, which includes an inserted chimney that creates a lobby entrance aligned east to west. There is an external rubble chimney with offsets and a detached diagonally-set brick stack at the east end. The structure has two storeys, with some wall framing visible on the northeast side.

The main south elevation features a central gabled bay with a parapet and kneelers. All window openings and the entrance have a hoodmould with returns. Both storeys include a 2-light window, a 3-light window, and a multi-paned single-light window. The entrance, located in the chimney bay, has a four-centred archway beneath a square head with glazed spandrels and double doors. Inside, some internal wall framing is partially exposed, showcasing large swept upper corner bracing at the east end.
