Description
Westbrook Cottage is a house dating from around 1600, which has been altered and extended in the late 20th century. The building features a mix of construction styles, including part timber-framed with painted brick and rendered infill, as well as part rubble, topped with a plain tiled roof. It has two framed bays that are aligned north to south, and an external roughcast chimney with a brick stack and a bread oven located at the south end. The cottage is a single storey with an attic that includes dormers.
The framing consists of three panels from the sill to the wall-plate, and there are no visible end trusses. On the west front elevation, all the windows are 20th-century casements, including two 2-light windows and a single-light window on the ground floor, along with a gabled dormer featuring a 2-light window to the left of centre. There are also attic lights at the gable ends. A single-storey glazed 20th-century wing is attached at the south end, and there is a 20th-century extension to the northeast, which includes the main entrance at the west end, positioned at an angle to the original part of the cottage.
