Description
Hintlesham Priory is a farmhouse that dates back to the 16th century or earlier, with mid-19th century and later alterations. Originally timber framed, much of the structure has been encased in or replaced with red brick. The roof is covered with plain tiles and the building has a three-cell plan, standing two storeys high. The 19th century facade features a two-storey canted bay with sash windows. On the ground floor, there are three 3-light cross casements, while the first floor has five similar windows. The entrance includes an early 19th century six-panel door. There is a 19th century axial brick stack on the left-hand gable, which is an external stack with a moulded early brick plinth, and both stacks have 19th century grouped polygonal shafts. At the rear, there is a five-light brick mullion and transom window with cavetto moulded mullions and a moulded brick band above it. The first floor features an early metal cross casement, and there is a door with six raised and fielded panels and HL hinges. Access to the interior is not available.
