Description

Normans Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 16th century and later. It is timber framed, with parts exposed and parts rendered, and has plain tile roofs. The building is L-shaped, with the main range extended to the right in the 1980s and a three-bay cross wing. It has one and a half to two storeys. The main range features late 20th century timber casements, including one in an altered opening, and similar casement dormers, one of which is in the extension. There is a rebuilt shaft of an axial brick stack and a 20th century door to the left of the stack. The three-bay cross wing has a gabled end facing north and a hipped end facing south, with exposed close studding on the gable and the right-hand return. The left-hand return has an external brick stack, likely from the early 17th century. The ground floor has a cross casement window with square leaded panes, while the first floor has a small two-light casement.

Inside the main range, there is a stack made of bricks from around 1600, a blocked doorway to the rear, a chamfered bridging beam, and horizontal joists. The cross wing has an exposed frame that varies from back to front, possibly indicating it was built as a single structure, with more impressive close studding at the front, although there are some alterations and reused timbers. It also features an arch-braced cambered tie beam.
