Description
Woodbury Hill Farmhouse is a 17th-century farmhouse with a west wing that has been refaced and extended in the 18th century, along with further alterations in the 19th and 20th centuries. The west wing is timber-framed with painted brick infill on a lias stone plinth, and the south gable end has been refaced in red brick, with additional red brick structures and brick stacks. The building has tiled roofs and is arranged in a straight range aligned east to west, featuring a projecting cross-wing and a gabled stair turret at the rear. The main stack is located at the junction with the wing, which likely served as the original hall and cross-wing with the stack backing onto a through passage. A second, later stack is positioned toward the center of the north elevation, and the entrance is located at the center of the main range.
The south elevation has two storeys, characterized by a dentilled eaves cornice and a string course, with the timber-framed gable end of the wing on the left having been refaced. The windows throughout are of 20th-century design, featuring 4-light metal casements—one on the gable end, one on the left, and four to the right of the porch on the main range, which has been added later and includes a heavy ledge door. The framing is complete at the rear and west return of the wing, consisting of two panels from the sill to the mid-rail and two additional panels to the wall-plate, with diagonal bracing from the sill to the mid-rail. The interior has been altered but still contains a large fireplace that was formerly an inglenook.
